It was regarded as one of the seven wonders of the world. It atracted many people from all over the world. Different states and cultures respected the temple and artemis.    At Christian period it was a center again. It was crowded and important city.Ephesus's acceptence ofChristian religion would mean increase in popularity of Christianity in Asia. So Apostle often visited here.  Saint John came, lived, died and was buried in Ephesus. Later on a church was built and dedicated to Saint John. Virgin Mary  is believed to have come and lived in Ephesus too.
